Comprehensive Coverage: More Protection For Your Car

Comprehensive Coverage

Comprehensive coverage on your auto insurance policy is the enhanced protection for your car and it will cover damages that are not result of a collision or rollover.

In our experience, the most common usage of comprehensive coverage is for a windshield repair or replacement.

In addition to covering glass damage on your car, comprehensive coverage also covers for:

Theft

Fire

Vandalism

Hitting An Animal

Falling/Flying Objects

Natural Disasters

Required coverage by auto lenders

Similar to collision coverage, if you leased or financed your vehicle, your lender will likely require you to carry comprehensive auto policy. This coverage requirement will ensure that the car is protected during the term of the lease or loan.

Selecting the right deductible for you

When you are first adding comprehensive coverage to your car insurance policy, you will be asked to select a deductible for this coverage. Deductible is the amount you pay when you need to use your insurance coverage in a claim.

It is important to select a deductible that is comfortable with your financial situation as this will be your out-of-pocket expense at the time of a claim.

Windshield claims

Keep in mind that when it comes to windshield claims, some insurance companies offer a $0 deductible for a rock-chip repair and only apply deductible when you need to file for a replacement. Other companies enforce the same deductible for all comprehensive claims.

Every insurance company has its own guidelines for policies. We always recommend talking to your own agent to discuss your personal policies in detail. Working with a personal agent is the best way to make sure you have the right coverages that fit your individual needs.
